The level of spending at land sales are typically used as a barometer to gauge future drilling activity. Companies, typically through brokers, bid on parcels at regularly-held land sales in Western Canada. These auctions are held roughly every second week in Alberta, once a month in B.C., six times a year in Saskatchewan and once a quarter in Manitoba.
