In February, Canadian crude oil exports by rail climbed to 132,693 bbls per day, according to the latest statistics from the National Energy Board (NEB). That’s up from 119,876 the previous month, and 95,625 bbls a day in February 2016.

Operators drilled more than twice the metres in the first four months of 2017 compared to a year ago. Producers rig released 7.1 million metres in Western and Northern Canada to the end of April, excluding test wells, up 111 per cent from 3.36 million metres in the year-prior period. The meterage tally is at a three-year high.

Higher crude oil flows from Nigeria and Saudi Arabia offset lower production from Libya and Iran and lifted OPEC output by 65,000 bbls per day during April to 31.78 million bbls per day. Adherence to the 1.2 million bbl-per-day supply pact loosened a touch in April, but the four-month performance rate was a robust 96 per cent, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). The highest compliance achieved during previous supply cuts was 75 per cent to 80 per cent, according to the OPEC Secretariat.
