Daily Infographic: Record Number Of Oilsands Project Start-Ups In 2014; Huge Capacity Growth Expected In 2015

Oilsands producers are now slowing new project development as they wait out low pricing, but in 2014, the industry saw the largest number of individual project start-ups in its history. Oilsands project start-ups and production gains follow up to three years behind corporate sanction.

Oilsands Review records show that last year,13 new projects started operating, representing a combined total capacity of approximately 195,000 bbls per day.

Even though this means more companies delivered oilsands projects in 2014 than ever before, total capacity growth was well below past gains. This evidence appears to confirm the trend of the industry’s shift to smaller-scale in situ projects.
